Stumbled on this old YouTube video I had totally forgotten about but absolutely adored. I love it when YouTube’s algorithm sends me shit I enjoy.
Mash-up of LCD Soundsystem’s “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down” with Miles Davis’ trumpets.
An unlikely duet and no music software needed. Just two YouTube screens side-by-side. It’s not a masterpiece but I just like the simplicity of how it’s done and brought to life.
This is from 2011, so I was still a journalist back then. I was online editor of Men’s Health Singapore, and I was also on the entertainment beat. Part of my job was reviewing music, games, movies, TV shows, and interviewing celebrities (like, will.i.am and Kanye level of celebs), and more. Fun times!
I was already covering entertainment for a couple of years by then, so I honestly listened to a lot of music. I often wrote about them on previous iterations of my blog. And I started a weekly mailing list for my friends called “Tasty Tunes Tuesday” where I’d share new music I enjoyed and clogged their emails with giant MP3s and cajoled them to join me on gigs and stuff. Also fun times!
